SAG awards

I continue to strive to be the source for all movie awards show news, or something. The Screen Actors Guild announced nominees for their tenth annual awards. Apparently, the focus this year is on “smaller” films, according to the Hollywood Reporter story. There’s some evidence of this (the article notes that Patricia Clarkson was elevated to Best Actress instead of supporting, as she’s been nominated elsewhere, (uh, Golden Globes, I think) for The Station Agent, as well as getting a supporting nod for thirteen). Mostly, it’s the *absence* of certain larger films that makes the presence of “smaller” films seem obvious. The Station Agent and Mystic River tied with six nominations apiece; “larger” films that are expected to show well at the Oscars (think Cold Mountain and Master and Commander) received basically no notice (Renee Zellweger is up for Best Supporting Actress).

I am now more convinced than ever that I need to see The Station Agent pronto… but of course, it moved out of the one theater in KC that was showing it TODAY. Grrr.
