let’s hear it for fiscal responsibility, hee hee

Ha, hahaha, sometimes despite my still nagging suspicions of his social views, I really love John McCain*. This whole verbal snit with Denny Hastert is just making my day, because in-fighting over taxes used to be something that only Democrats did well. The whole story (at the moment) is here (or here, Yahoo! condensed), but I particularly love McCain’s response to Hastert’s response to McCain:

“The speaker is correct in that nothing we are called upon to do comes close to matching the heroism of our troops,” he said. “All we’re called upon to do is not spend our nation into bankruptcy while our soldiers risk their lives. I fondly remember a time when real Republicans stood for fiscal responsibility.”

Yeah, remember those days? It’s so nice to hear someone say, very loudly, that those days are over. Now, please, John Kerry, grab that line and run! run! run!

*This does not in any way mean that I somehow hope or even believe that the story of a Kerry-McCain ticket is at all credible. Please, let’s all remember, I have no desire to see a Republican one heartbeat away from the White House.

Halle-fuckin’-lujah. Kerry definitely needs a better speech-minder/writer/policer. I think you should apply for the job. 🙂
