End of semester party: TiVo for all!

So, today, I went to my last classes of the semester (got an A on my first samurai paper — that’s happy news). I’ve done evals for all of my professors now. I’m a good evaluator, if I may say so. I fill in the scantron parts but also write in the comments boxes, both good and bad, with specific examples. I’ve really only totally decimated two or three teachers in my whole academic career, and none this semester.

And yay, it’s almost done! Just a paper to write by 1 p.m. tomorrow and the second part of my fiction portfolio to e-mail in, and then… no work until the final for Brit Lit on Tuesday.

Also: I bought a TiVo box. $49.99 (after $100 rebate) for a 40 hour Series 2 DVR — the remanufactured version, but — I don’t care, as long as it works. Woo-hoo! Free shipping and no tax. I’m a happy girl, and I will never miss Jeopardy or Jon Stewart on Larry King again.

What’s the monthly fee for TiVo, then? Is it still 10.00?

I’d probably enjoy reading your Samurai papers.

The whole His Dark Materials thing is such crap. I remember when the author of Pippin (I think) wouldn’t let his show be done (in Utah) if they tried to change it from a show about a widowed dad and his seven kids to a show about a married dad. Why doesn’t Pullman tell them to shove it? But note that toning down the religion thing is not new news: it had been planned from the start.

I had heard earlier murmurs that the movies would be toned down, but something about this report — and the idea that the religious themes of the book would be completely divorced from the movie — really hit me hard. My guess is that Pullman may be doing whatever he can to stay involved in the project — if they’re going to mess it up, at least they can do it under his watchful eye, instead of hiring it out to some other writer…

I’ll admit, i’ve had some serious doubts about the success with which they’ll be able to transfer this to the screen, but I’ve also been eager to see it, too, if just to see how Pullman manages to compress his books into a screenplay.

$12.95 — which will be worth it, I figure, if it keeps me from leaving home to seek entertainment.

Oh, yeah — I get my sword and cool hairdo after the final.

  7. valkyriemoon says:

dude, that’s awesome… i cant wait to see that

  8. starstraf says:

    Ohhhh i’m jealous

  9. kepkanation says:

Don’t be too jealous yet — I have to send it back, it’s horribly broken.

    Did your Thursday lunch cancel?

  10. kepkanation says:

contending [dude] is much more than a catchall for lazy, inarticulate surfers, skaters, slackers and teenagers

But that’s all I needed it for! To express my lazy, inarticulate, slacking surfer/skater/inner teenager! I can’t learn new meanings now.

He’s better so I have plans
