Babs the Bunny

Jessica Alba demands Playboy pull issue,” which is an altogether uninteresting threat, has this intriguing and somewhat frightening endquote from the Playboy publicist (who must be having a dream of a day with all of this free attention): “Many celebrities have appeared on the cover of Playboy, but not nude, including Claudia Schiffer, Paris Hilton, Goldie Hawn, Raquel Welch, Barbra Streisand, Brooke Shields and Donald Trump.”

Wait. BARBRA STREISAND on the cover of PLAYBOY? How did the world not explode?

I agree that the Streisand thing is terrifying.

I have to side with Alba on this not for moral reasons, but for legal ones. She declined them permission to use her image, and they obtained the picture under false pretenses. I’m the last one to cry for poor little rich celebrity, but it sets a nasty legal precedent.

*terrible pictures of Donald Trump going through my head*
*mentally censoring with hairpieces, LOTS of hairpieces*
    *exploding head*

I think legally she’s screwed, though everything depends on what exactly she cleared for use and when. If she said she wouldn’t let them photograph her, that’s one thing; if she said they couldn’t use any image of her, that’s another. I would actually blame the movie people more than Playboy for this one, though — I doubt they didn’t know what the picture was going to be used for, and I doubt they didn’t think, Rock on, more publicity for our film! when releasing it. Which is troublesome all around, but probably more shady than illegal. I wonder what kind of releases stars sign when agreeing to allow their images to be used to publicize movies.
